Weekend
The rain this weekend slowed our drywalling project to a stand still on Sunday. On Saturday we hung all of our sheets. This was no easy task as the studs, two by threes in the main room and one by twos in the back room. The back room proved a daunting challange as the one by twos were not even spaced at 16' on center, plus they are not even 1 in thick so screwing into them proved another challenge. The walls were also not level and the studs were not straight. We had two very difficult seems, one on a corner, and the other with a 6 inch splice between two full sheets of sheetrock. There was no way around this. Everytime that I touched this space on the wall with my putty knife, the other side would move and cause me grief. I finally just put enough mud on in hopes that the wall would firm up. I ended up with one good seam and one that I will need to pull the tape, sand down some and try again. At least the wall did end up becoming solid and is no longer moving. The Humidity brought by the rain did not allow the seams to dry all the way so we were unable to sand, when we left about 5 last night, they were still not completely dry. We are going back on Tuesday night to sand and put another coat of compound in all the seams and screw holes. Then it will just be a matter of sanding to finish some time later in the week, hopefully not another weekend. I do have to admit that I did enjoy spending the weekend with my girl.
