My Life is Full of Suprises

Life decided to sneak up behind me and kick me in the ass this weekend as it does quite frequently. As I told you in a post last week, I purchased a new A/C unit last Friday. I made plans with a friend to come over on Saturday morning and give me ahand installing it. I figured if we started early we would be done before the extreme heat of the afternoon. As the forcast called for 102 degrees I started to work on my project at 7AM. I told my friend to call me when he got up and I should be ready for him to come over and help lift the behemoth. I tore out the old unit and measured the case and cut the proper size rough opening. The previous owner had cut through the wall instead of installing in a window. By the time I was done, it was about 9 and I had not heard from my friend yet. I tried to call him, no answer. I went on with some other projects thinking he must be sleeping in, he had just returned from Missouri the night before. Well, projects moved on and so did the time, 10 arrived then 11 and I tried to call again, cell and home, he should be up by now. No answer. By 12:30 I was worried that something was up, so I hopped on the bike and rode over to his house to make sure that he was alive. He was. Well, I finally got him over to the house after some putzing around at 3:30 it only took about 30 minutes to get it all installed. I plugged it in and fired it up and waited to be chilled to the bone. I was not, the fucking thing was bowing hot air. I shut it off and waited for 15 minutes, still the same. I turned it to fan like it said in the manual incase the compressor needed to reset itself. No cold air. We decided to leave it on cool and run and get something to eat. The house was 105 degrees at a quarter to 5. We went and ate and when I returned home it was even hotter in the house, the A/C was producing heat. I turned it off and called customer service. They told that I had a couple options, to take it back to the store and exchange it, to get my money back, or to have them setup a service call and have someone out to fix it. The final option would have taken three to five days. No way. I pulled that fucker out and took it back to the store. I made a trip around town to see if I could find another unit about the same size. The only one was at Sears and was $80 more then the one I was returning. I ended up getting two smaller units and got the bigger of the two installed Saturday night. I was so happy when I fired it up and cold air came shooting out of it. It took awhile for it to bring the temperature down from 105 degrees but it did and the house has been comfortable ever since.
